Effective January 1st 2020, the BC government has imposed a tax on any vapor products sold in the province, both online and retail. This tax raises the standard 7% PST to 20%, as well as raising the 5% GST to 6%, for a combined tax rate of 26% on all vapor products sold, including eJuice, disposables, mods, tanks and otherwise. This tax must be charged on every sale, with no exception.
Additionally, the BC government has imposed restrictions on the types of vapor products sold. Flavored vaping products are restricted to 19+ only specialty vape stores. They have also imposed a container size limit, limited to a 2mL max capacity for any tank, pod, disposable, etc. sold within the province. They have also restricted the maximum bottle size sold to 30mLs, regardless of nic strength and type, While we may not agree with these rules, it is our duty to follow them regardless, and will not sell products that violate BC's laws.
Effective January 1st, 2023, the Federal government has imposed an excise tax on any and all vape products sold across Canada that contain eJuice. The excise tax scales based off the total amount of eJuice in a product. The scale works as follows:
So in this scale, a 30mL bottle with carry an extra $7 of excise tax. A 2mL disposable will have $1 in excise tax, a 3-pack of 2mL pods will have an extra $3 of excise tax.
These taxes are imposed on the manufacturers, and are rolled into the cost of the juice itself. They are applied before any additional taxes are tacked on, and have unfortunately increased the cost of products across the board. As such, these taxes cannot be negated in any way as they massively increase our cost of doing business.
